It is a beautiful Sunday here in Dubai, and it is my day off “work”. Welcome along to another blog guys. I am a professional wedding photographer whose work brings in the money that feeds my family, but it’s my passion for street photography that feeds my soul. Mounted to either of the latter two bodies you have a viable rival to the Ricoh GR – … Hi John, The best advice I have ever read was this: money can only buy you happiness, as long as you spend it on experiences, NOT material things. All of the shots on this page were shot with auto-focus (don’t judge me) and I never missed a shot because focus couldn’t find a lock. Ian, thanks for a very informative and enlightening article on setting up the X100F for street photography. I have the X100S and considered “upgrading” to the X100T but I’m not sure I can justify the cost vs. new features. They are small, compact and lightweight. Not to mention how long the camera system took to boot. Today I want to make a few suggestions as to how to set up your Fuji camera for street photography. It’s small, responsive and the image quality is out of this world. However, for street photography, I suggest that you consider shooting in Shutter Priority Mode. The refresh rate is very fast (very similar to the X-T1) and it is big. I think if are deciding between the black and silver version, I’d actually get the silver version (I think it looks nicer). This is my list. But to sum up, the X100T is an absolute joy to shoot with— little to no stress dealing with shooting in the streets. Great high-ISO capacities, the best colors I have seen out of a digital camera (the Nikon D800/Canon 5D Mark III also look great). If anything, I find that I often have to add a ton of fake grain to make digital photos look grittier— as they look “too clean” straight out of the camera. If so, I have some tips to overcome GAS. ISO 6400 is very good for streetphotography and i often using it. Also if you want a more pocketable camera for street photography, I highly recommend the new Ricoh GR (read my review here). It is not discussed enough in reviews for street photographers. Also at night if you use the AF-illumination light, the camera autofocuses quite solidly. The image quality is on par with that of the Leica (X100T has better high ISO capabilities) at a fraction of the cost (Leica $6,500 vs. X100T $1,200). Hello! This is the third article in my ongoing series on the new Fujifilm X100F. They let the students play with a bunch of X-T1’s, X100T’s, and lenses. Flash in Street photography is a very useful tool. fuji x100t settings. Hi, One of the reasons why I bought the X10 was because I do think that this camera could be a great companion for street photography. It looks more premium. I really like this little camera, I like it so much that it will become my primary Street Photography camera from here on out. That's not strictly true as I also had my Fujifilm X-T3 and my other favourite camera, the X70 with me.. Long story short (before I delve into the details), I think if you have an X100 (and want an upgrade), I think the X100T is a substantial enough upgrade. Disclaimer: I was given a free Fujifilm X100T for this review. If you have an X100S, the upgrade isn’t really necessary (but if you want to sell your X100S for the newest and greatest, go for it). more after the break You can also pick to use meters of feet measurements. Great insight! I but them, tried them out and never really used them. I also shot a lot with the flash on the X100T (the integrated one), and while the recharge time isn’t the fastest in the world, it still gets the job done. Nice review! to come out of sleep. Anyways, Fujifilm cameras are probably the best bang-for-the-buck digital camera for street photography in terms of value (especially the Fujifilm X100T). With that being said, I did miss a shot because the camera took too long to wake up. Just one question, I would like to also use it for taking photos of my toddler son, who obviously moves quite a bit. I did some digging around teh interwebz and found that the changes were pretty minor. At ISO 6400 the images exceeded my expectations. My question is how do you back button focus with the X100F. Obviously this is a rather subjective test, whether or not you’ll be happy with the level of detail at ISO 6400 is entirely up to you. Also things to consider: for the price of $1,300 you can afford a round-trip ticket to somewhere in the world, buy 33 amazing photography books (assuming each book was around $40), go on a road trip somewhere (related article on how to do an American road trip), book a photography workshop, and invest it in experiences. Tips, tricks, and tools of the trade. You don’t need to follow my example, or you can modify at your taste some settings … Disclaimer: I was given a free Fujifilm X100T for this review. I use a wrist strap and thumb grip and never have an issue with accidentally dropping or feeling like I might drop the camera. *Setting the camera up in this way will make it as fast and accurate as possible. Each one has its own vision and … Continue reading "Night Photography: 12 Essential Techniques, with Fuji X cameras" I found one of the biggest problems of the X100S was that it was quite easy to knock around the exposure-compensation dial (on the far right of the camera). I felt the camera was too fiddly in my hand, with placement of controls and a slippery, low-profile hand grip that meant it felt quite precarious. But getting into using flash in street photography can be tricky to work out how to use it correctly. The Fuji X100 (X100S, X100T) series of cameras are very well suited for shooting street photography. Fuji X100T seems like the perfect fit. My Nikon Df is one of the best cameras I’ve ever used but it’s not as discreet and doesn’t go everywhere with me because of its size. I purchased both and use neither. The size of the camera is its best and, for some, it’s worst feature. Good luck with your decision, let me know how you fair. As long as it’s dry, warm and light we are out there taking pictures. I added a Thumb Grip by Lensmate* that does not require screwing anything in but slides snug into the cameras hot shoe mount. Street Photography Tokyo the Stills: In the video, I mention that I only have my X100F with me. In the fall, winter, and spring I literally drop it into my coat pocket and it goes with me everywhere. The size, image quality, and ease of use make this the perfect camera, in my opinion, for Street Photographers. Furthermore, they don’t attract attention, so people on the street won’t notice you as a “professional” photographer. The original Fuji X100 came after the Leica X1 and both models set the current trend for fixed-lens 35mm shooters that are particularly suited to street photography. For streetphotography, documentary, report,… For macro and details shooting I must setings on f4 for best sharpen, f2 is blured and very soft. For street photography with the Fuji X100 series (and for general usage) I tend to go with the following settings: Aperture Priority Mode, with the Aperture usually around f/8 depending on the amount of light. Whereas the X-T1’s autofocusing speed depends on the lens you’re actually shooting with. [All images made with the X100t] I want to thank Olivier Duong for allowing me to … But the Fujifilm x70 seems like a game changer for Fuji— all their little compact cameras before (x30 and so on) were just little crappy compact point-and-shoot cameras. Street Photography Settings ... .I currently do 95% of street photography with the Fuji x100s because it is small but with an integrated viewfinder (as opposed to the rx100) and it is important for me to have one. If you own a Leica, it is not worth it (or necessary, common you already own a Leica). You can also see some of the aesthetic differences on the Fujifilm site here. It's just what I shoot mostly right now, but the colors on the Fuji … When I tried it in a store, the camera seemed to go into sleep when it was away from the eye and a sensor would turn it back on when I put it up to my eye. Thank you guys for the support, and to Fujifilm for sponsoring me with this free camera (as well as the X100S), my events, and for making a badass camera that ultimately helps the street photography community. However if you love the newest and greatest (and you can afford it) I would say go for the upgrade. Some of you have asked what settings I use for street photography. Greg, Hello, thanks for your review. The X100T has the same basic sensor as the X100S and the X-T1 and it’s earned quite a good reputation as being one of the best 16 megapixel crop-sensors on the market. I couldn’t tell any difference in terms of weight or the handling of the X100T over the X100s — I believe it is identical. My wife uses it to photograph her 2 year old niece and 3 year old nephew with great results. I burned my fingers on a Panasonic DMC-LX3 a few years back. Auto ISO, with a maximum ISO of 3200 and a minimum shutter speed of … I only mention this because up until the X100T I felt that my Nikon Df was the best Street Photography camera around because of its full frame sensor. I agree, the jump from the x100s to the X100T would be a tough choice. If you purchase the camera through my affiliate links (everything on my blog that points to Amazon), I get around a 7.5% commission fee— which helps me pay my rent, my film, and my coffee/espresso habit (which is a good thing— which leads to a lot more free articles and resources for this blog). You can download some of my free Lightroom 5 Street Photography film-simulation presets (optimized for the Fujifilm cameras and works well on all RAW files on all cameras) for free. Fujifilm also hit a home-run (at least in my book) by making the menus simpler. If you haven’t read the previous articles yet I have a full review of the camera HERE, and a detailed article on how I set it up for shooting on the street HERE.. Anyways, I am still pretty committed to shooting film at this point (most of my personal work back home in Berkeley, California in my neighborhood is shot on my Hasselblad 6×6 medium-format camera on Kodak Portra 400) and I’m still focusing on my “Suits” and “Only in America” series on 35mm with my Leica MP and Contax T3 (also on Kodak Portra 400). But the details are very good. That’s all…for the moment! I wanted to try the camera out, and bring you guys some practical details which would affect shooting the X100T on the streets. I also think that the X100T is the best “bang-for-the-buck” camera for street photography currently in the market (in terms of value for the money), especially if you want a viewfinder. You'll notice the majority of my street photography is black and white. February 12, 2016 By Ted 11 Comments. La luce del sole, le insegne luminose, i riflessi sulle vetrine, le dominanti colorate delle auto creano un miscuglio complesso di luci e contrasti il cui controllo e bilanciamento spesso risulta difficoltoso. Fuji X100T Street Photography Review I’ve been using a review sample of the Fuji X100T as my primary camera for just over 2 months and let me start off by saying I really like it. But of course if you want to be stealthy and prefer black— it is always a solid option too. I would still say that the Olympus OM-D series cameras still have the edge (fastest autofocusing cameras I’ve used for street photography, when I tested the cameras of my friends). I had seen wonderful, giant prints at the PhotoPlus event that were created with the Fuji GFX, and with some unbelievable Fuji deals out right now (as of right now you can get the GFX with the 63mm lens (50mm equivalent) or 45mm lens (36mm equivalent) for $1000 off), it peaked my interest on how it would do as a frequently used street camera. That’s saying something since it’s more than two years old. Nowadays when I meet someone with the original X100 (even to a bit the X100S), the menus are a nightmare. I think if you’re rich (or have disposable income), the X100T is still enough of a “justified” upgrade over the X100S (assuming you sell the X100S). You just point, click, and make the photos you want. My set up is multi/matrix metering, aperture priority and one of three auto settings: ISO 200=6400, min 1/125; ISO 800-6400, min 1/125; ISO 800-6400, min 1/60. Fujifilm was generous enough to sponsor my 2 workshops here (a 1-day Conquer your Fear of Shooting Street Photography course, and a 3-day intensive Intermediate/Advanced Street Photography Workshop focused on projects). 2. The biggest changes I noticed are the directional buttons around the OK button (used to be a spinning wheel) and the wheel below the exposure compensation dial now spins (it used to just push from side to side). Glad you are enjoying the X100T, it really is an amazing tool. If you shoot RAW you won’t lose much dynamic range over your Nikon either, my primary camera is the full frame Nikon Df which I regularly shoot at ISO 6400 with, the x100t at ISO 6400 is hard to discern from the full frame Df.
